Archives of the twentieth century applied arts

Irene de Guttry and Maria Paola Maino, historians of the twentieth century architecture and applied arts, founded, in 1987, the association Archivi delle Arti Applicate Italiane del XX secolo (“Archives of the twentieth century applied arts”). This is a centre of documentation and research, connected to a specialized library, open to scholars and students. The association is currently guest of the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna di Roma. The purpose of the association is to document Italian decorative arts. The archives consist in folders containing photographs and various documents – both original and photocopies of articles and extracts from publications – in the name of artists and manufacturers active in the first half of the twentieth century. They concern works of applied arts – furniture, ceramics, glassware, wrought-iron, tapestry, book illustrations, posters etc – with particular emphasis on the work of some Roman artists, particularly Duilio Cambellotti
